Cumberland Netball Club has been celebrating after winning England Netball’s outstanding club of the year award.

The national award, received at a ceremony at Birmingham’s National Conference Centre on Saturday, recognises Cumberland’s string of recent achievements.

The club this year became one of only 30 clubs nationwide to hold England Netball’s Gold CAPS accreditation, which recognises clubs offering the highest levels of netball provision within their community.

And chair Jo Stevens was also one of only eight coaches in the country to pass her UKCC Level 3 award this year.

“It is an incredible honour to have received this award on behalf of the many outstanding volunteers who have gone before me, including those who first founded Cumberland 16 years ago,” said Stevens. “Cumberland is an amazing club run by a strong and dedicated team of young women. We are proud to offer netball in central London to all skill sets, from beginners to National Premier League, and for all ages.”

Cumberland’s head of coaching Kim North added: “It is an honour to receive this award in recognition of the hard work and talent of Cumberland’s coaches.

“Recognition must go to all the volunteers including our fellow nominee Elz Eve, who together help us create a professional and enjoyable coaching environment and develop talented netballers of all ages and levels.

“I am proud to be part of a club of so many brilliant women and to receive this prestigious award.”

Cumberland has 11 senior and five junior teams and is one of only six clubs within the M25 to compete in the Mizuno National Premier League.

The awards are part of England Netball’s annual Goalden Globes, which celebrates the outstanding contributions of volunteers around the country.

Cumberland’s Elzaan Eve received the London and South East Region’s Grassroots Official award for her commitment to umpiring, having recently qualified as a B award umpire and taken on the Head of Umpiring role at Cumberland.

Cumberland are now preparing for their opening National Premier League match of the season at London’s City University on September 24.
