The latest boxing news from Islington

Former Islington amateur Daniel Dubois continued his unbeaten start to his professional career with victory over Kevin Johnson.

However, the 21-year-old had to rely on the judges’ cards to win after being taken the distance for the first time in his blossoming career.

For most of the 10 rounds, Dubois had Johnson on the ropes with the man known as ‘Dynamite’ slamming home punches from all angles to both head and body.

Having only been stopped twice in 43 previous bouts, Johnson held up well to the challenge and was able to see the fight through to the end, despite Dubois’ control.

The young Brit was able to take the decision and claim a ninth straight win in the paid ranks to continue his development.

Dubois took to social media site Twitter after his victory, posting: “Got the win. Back to the gym and onto the next.”

Johnson, meanwhile, was full of praise for Dubois’s jab when speaking to Boxing Social after his defeat.

“I couldn’t get past that jab. I tried to mesmerise him with the speed of my jab, which was good and landed when it landed,” said Johnson.

“When he started catching it and shooting his back, it was like trying to block right-hand, right-hand, left-hook.”

Islington super lightweight Louis Isaacs made it three straight wins in the paid ranks with a points victory over Mohamed Mahmoud on Saturday.

The 21-year-old beat super lightweight rivals Mahmoud on a Goodwin promotion at the Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness Centre.

Isaacs will hope to continue his progress with another victory in his next bout in the paid ranks

*Former Islington captain Jeffrey Ofori will challenge Southern Area lightweight champion Jumanne Camero at the Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness Centre on Saturday.

Ofori is unbeaten in seven bouts since turning professional in 2017, while Camero heads into the bout off the back of a shock defeat to Freddy Kiwitt last time out.

Also on the bill is former St Pancras amateur Robbie Chapman, who faces middleweight rivals Callum Ide in a four-round fight as he looks to build on a win in his only pro bout so far.
