Gracie Leigh Dunkley’s double clinched the points for Islington Borough Under-12s with a nail-biting 3-2 victory over Spurs in the Capital Girls’ League.
Maggie Bristow put Islington ahead with a precise corner that had enough power to slip past the goalkeeper at the near post, but Spurs quickly hit back with an equaliser.
Dunkley restored her side’s advantage, collecting the ball on the halfway line and racing clear to score – only for a rebound to set up a second goal for Spurs soon afterwards.
Adrian Lins and Tiarna Reid both went close for Islington, but the scoreline remained unchanged until late on, when Bristow’s pass set up Dunkley to slide home the winner.
Islington coach Ramona Paul said: “Come the new year, the girls will be in a great league position to start the second half of their season.”
