Finsbury Park coach Gareth Chapman is looking forward to the club’s first home match in the Herts/Middlesex One Division this weekend.

Chapman and his side welcome the Bank of England to Downhills Park Road on Saturday as they look to cause an upset by making it back-to-back wins after being promoted into the league last season.

“I’m really looking forward to it and I think the whole squad is, let’s just say it’s a real step-up as they were in the league last year, so it is a big challenge,” Chapman said.

“It’s obviously at home so you always want to start off well at home to get the momentum going.”

He did admit they don’t know much about their opponents but will just play their game and hopefully finish with a win.

“We don’t, I played them many years ago, but I’m expecting a really tough game if I’m honest as they had a pretty decent season last year and if they can travel well I’m expecting a difficult match all round.

“Hopefully we can show what we’re worth and get a win out of the game.”

Finsbury Park started the season with a 22-13 away win against Thamesians and the coach was delighted to get his side together and get off to a strong start.

“It was nice way of getting back into the season as we played them last year so we knew a bit about them anyway, but we actually lost to them away, so it was nice to get one up on them right at the start of the season.

“It was one of the few bad games we had last season, but all in all it was a nice opportunity just to see the guys, especially as for some of the guys it was there first game playing together.

“We had four new starters for example, who we picked up in the summer, so it was nice to get them involved and start of with a win as well.”

He is hoping they’ll take that confidence into their next match this weekend.

“It really is, you can see it in the guys as well when they’re playing, they know when they’re playing well and they know when they’re playing badly. As a coach it is nice to know that they’re actually pulling themselves together.”
