Captain Evan Gwilliam and his side will travel away to Staines for their fourth game of the season as they look to continue going against the odds and cause another upset.

They go into the match on the back of a 37-0 victory against UCS Old Boys last weekend, when their tries came from Izaiah Turner Flavius, Patrick Joyce, Evan Gwilliam, Frazer Findlate and Ed Morden.

Hooker Fred Bromley, who was the most capped player last season, felt it was a brilliant result for the side.

“It was a fantastic result because not only did it prove that the game against Bank of England wasn’t a flash in the pan, but it also showed we can impose our game plan in the worst conditions,” he said.

“Add to that a slight feeling that we could have scored even more points, and there is much cause for optimism moving forward.

“We head to Staines on Saturday meaning we face another unknown quantity.

“This doesn’t concern us, though, we just focus on ourselves in the knowledge that when we execute our game plan, there aren’t many sides that can keep up with us.

“Playing away doesn’t concern us much either – we’ve been pretty nomadic over the past few years!”

The Finsbury Park second team also enjoyed a good start in their league campaign as they sealed a 27-17 win against Letchworth thirds.

It was their first game after being promoted in to Herts Middlesex Merit Table Four and they sealed the victory thanks to tries from John Musson, Josh Ledger, Bertrand Debeuf, Victor Sanchez-Tarre and John Startin.

Alex Thomas said: “Very greasy conditions led to both a lot of mistakes and a high penalty count.

“But these set-plays were well navigated by a team of players who hadn’t spent a lot of time playing together in the past.

“With five different try scorers there are causes for optimism.”

Thomas and the Park second string will now travel away for their second match of the season to face their Hendon counterparts as they look to make it back-to-back wins.
