Arsenal boss Unai Emery opens up on injuries to Rob Holding and Aaron Ramsey after the Islington Gazette quizzed him following the 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Emery admitted centre-half Holding could have a ‘big’ knee injury with speculation rising it could be a cruciate ligament issue.

The former Bolton defender has been having a stellar season and any possible long-term injury to the 23-year-old would be a huge blow.

The defender was carried off on a stretcher after being replaced by Stephan Lichtsteiner following a collision with Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

In response to a question from the Islington Gazette Emery revealed his medical staff had told him there was a real possibility of a ‘big injury’ to Holding.

He said: “The worst news is the Rob Holding injury, the doctors think maybe it is a big injury but we are going to wait (to find out), it is his knee.”

Emery also insisted Ramsey’s substitution – he was replaced at half-time by Henrik Mkhitaryan – is not being seen as a problem.

He added: “Ramsey I think is a small injury but they showed us that afterwards every player responded with a good quality.”
