England’s player of the year Jordan Nobbs wants to build on her success by helping Arsenal to regain a Champions League spot in 2017.
The Gunners, who remain the only English club to have won Europe’s highest honour in the women’s game, have missed out on the last three tournaments.
And the Arsenal midfielder is eyeing a return to European football – as well as success with England at the Euro 2017 finals – as one of her top targets for next year.
“I want to play as well as I can, whether it’s for Arsenal or England,” said Nobbs. “I’ve enjoyed the last year with England and working under [manager] Mark Sampson – he’s really pushed me as a player.
“My ambition is definitely to be a big part of that team at the Euros, show what I can do on a big stage and play a major role in the tournament.
“At Arsenal, we have expectations as a club and we want to be in the top two and get into the Champions League, 100 per cent – if not winning the league.
“We were disappointed with coming third this year. As an Arsenal player you want to be winning everything and we need to make sure we don’t drop silly points next time.”
Nobbs was voted England player of the year at the recent FA Women’s Football Awards to round off a successful 12 months following the frustration of 2015, when she missed a large chunk of the season due to injury.
“Just to be included in the top four was a massive achievement and to know people voted for me to be the winner was such an amazing feeling,” added the 23-year-old.
“I’ve loved every minute of every game. When you’re not selected for a game there’s something you can improve on – when it’s injuries there’s nothing you can do.
“I’m still young and hopefully I can carry on improving and show how good I can be.”
