Chairman Daniel Levy admits ‘these next few weeks are pivotal’ when providing an update on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs have officially confirmed the Premier League home match with Arsenal next month will take place at Wembley Stadium.

When it was first revealed in January the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would not be ready for any of the Lilywhites fixtures in February, it was always expected the club’s new home would not host the Gunners as the opening fixture in the 62,062-seater stadia.

Now Spurs have released a statement which provided an update on what is happening at the venue in N17.

An official club statement read: “We can today report that remedial works on the safety systems in the new stadium are near completion and we shall then move forward to the final stages of testing the fire detection and alarm system and its integration with the other safety systems.

“The success of this testing is critical to our ability to obtain a safety certificate and open the stadium.

“We can confirm, therefore, that we shall play our Premier League match against Arsenal on Saturday 2 March at 12.30pm at Wembley Stadium.”

Daniel Levy, chairman, said: “Once again, thank you all for bearing with us and for the great support we have received from so many different quarters. These next few weeks are pivotal.”

Tottenham will provide a further update in due course. Ticketing and refund details for the Arsenal fixture will follow shortly.

Spurs’ next home game after the north London derby is against Crystal Palace on March 16, but this could be rearranged should the Eagles reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Roy Hodgson’s team will try to achieve just that on Sunday week (February 17) away to Doncaster Rovers in the fifth round of the competition.

If Palace do reach the last eight of the tournament, Tottenham’s next home encounter would be Brighton & Hove Albion’s visit on April 6.
