Islington Admiral United 5 Regent Rovers 0
Islington Admiral United won the Islington Gazette Cup for a sixth time with a stylish 5-0 win over Regent Rovers.
Despite beating Rovers three times already this season, Anthony Clark’s side were focused and committed from the start and got their reward.
Andrew White made a strong run through the heart of the Rovers defence and was found by Chris Bourne, before calmly slotting home to catch Rovers cold.
The same duo combined again to create the chance for Admiral’s lead to be doubled on the quarter-hour mark as White was brought down in the box and Bourne stepped up to first home from the penalty spot.
Dominant Admiral had further chances to put the result beyond doubt before half time, as a sweeping move involving David Bryan, Ashley Taylor-Forbes and Bourne led to a shot from Yemi Buraimoh being well saved by the Rovers keeper.
Bourne had a chance of his own to add to the tally when sent clearn through, but Admiral were again denied by the keeper.
The second half began in similar fashion to the first, though, as Buraimoh found White racing through and he fired home to make it 3-0.
Rovers tried to regroup, but they couldn’t find a way past Admiral’s defence of Kevin Duffy, Jason Edwards, Aaron Hutchins and Altan Ceylan, with Jason Hartles untroubled in goal.
David Bryan, Buraimoh, White and Jake King worked tirelessly in midfield to win the ball back from Rovers, while Taylor-Forbes and Bourne were a constant threat in attack.
And with 10 minutes remaining White turned provider for substitute Ricky Loucas to hit a sweet volley into the corner of the net and make it 4-0.
Ramie Rifat and Haben Tesim came off the bench to bolster Admiral’s ranks before Bourne scored a fine solo goal to complete the scoring.
Delighted Admiral boss Clark said: “This was one of those occasions when everything you plan comes to together. The team’s performance was superb and even without a couple of key players, it shows how strong our squad is.”
United: Hartles, Duffy, Ceylan, Edwards, Hutchins, Bryan, King, Buraimoh, White, Bourne, Taylor-Forbes, Tesim, Rifat, Loucas, Ndjeka, Paul.
