A grasssroots youth football team formed only a few years ago in the shadows of Highbury’s evocative East Stand has achieved unprecedented success throughout its ranks this season.

LSS youth academy, founded in Highbury Fields – a short Thierry Henry dribble to the marble halls of Arsenal’s former stadium – four short years ago, has been involved in a spectacular rise on and off the pitch.

The ever-expanding North London club saw eight of its teams reach divisional cup finals, winning five of them.

The heartwarming story has seen LSS – who play in the Camden and Regents Park League – lift silvewrare in the under 8B, under 8C, under 10A and under 11B age ranges, a stunning quintuple.

Founder, coach and Arsenal season ticket holder, Danny West said: “I’m very proud of everyone.

“All the finals were close but thankfully our organisation and coaching got us over the finish line.

“We lost a number of semi-finals last season but they’ve learned from that and used the experience to kick on this year.

“More importantly it makes you proud because the kids enjoy playing football which is so important.

“Our success is testament to the hard work and dedication from all our players, as well as from the parents and coaches.”

But that’s not all. This Easter LSS representative sides will take part in a prestigious international youth tournament in Barcelona called the Football Cup.

The tournament, which is set to take place in the Salou and Cambrils areas south of the famed Catalan city, will feature more than 100 teams from 15 countries competing for silverware on eight state of the art football pitches.

Each team will play a minimum of five. 11 v 11 matches in a competition approved by the Catalan FA.

Danny added: “All our kids are looking forward to going to Barcelona – we can’t wait to play over there.”
