Islington pupils shine at Premier League finals

Ashmount Primary’s mixed football team had a day to remember as they represented Arsenal in the Premier League National Finals at Stamford Bridge.

The tournament sees each Premier Club hold regional competitions for schools to earn the right to represent them at the National stage, with over 1,000 schools entering.

Islington’s Ashmount had won a local 32-school tournament at Market Road in February to secure their place and a goal from Han Willhoft-King was enough to beat Middlesbrough in their first match.

Goals from Stephane Mgbada and Cameron Walker earned a 2-2 against Manchester United, before a 3-1 loss against Burnley’s representatives ended hopes of glory.

There was still the matter of a North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur’s entry, when a solitary goal from Willhoft-King clinched a memorable victory and a pleasing end to a successful day for the pupils, which saw Ashmount as the only school from the 20 teams to play a girl in each game.
