Friends gathered once again to play an annual 5-a-side tournament in memory of Islington footballer Danny Payne, who sadly passed away in 2010 aged 38.

The event was organised by Danny’s sister Jaime, with four teams taking part this year and a minutes silence was held and balloons released before the action got underway to mark Danny’s birthday.

Team Danielson eventually claimed the silverware, which was received by captain George Isaac, and all monies raised will go towards children’s cancer charities.

Danny played for Chapel Market Boys and Islington Kings among others and Jaime Payne said: “It was a fantastic event. Each of the players turn out year after year which shows how well Danny was thought of.

“Without them this wouldn’t be possible and special thanks to Giles Bristow, Joanne Thripp and Paul Coughlan for giving up their time to help organise it.”
