Highbury Fields parkrun organisers have now set up a youngsters-only event which will be held every Sunday at 9.30am.

The junior parkrun is open to children aged between four and 14 of all abilities and comprises a 2km run at Highbury Fields. The event is free of charge and supervised by volunteers.

Youngsters who would like to take part in the junior parkrun just need to register at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ and print out the barcode, then turn up on the Sunday. Times will be sent to participants after the event.

A spokesman for the event said: “It’s a run not a race – that’s important. It’s all about kids having fun through exercise without any pressure to be overly competitive.”

The organisers are also looking for parents and other volunteers to help ensure the event runs smoothly and safely each week. For more details, go to http://www.parkrun.org.uk/highburyfields-juniors/futureroster/
