A trio of Year 10 students from Highbury Grove School succeeded in retaining their title with a hard-fought victory in the annual Islington girls’ tournament.
The Highbury Grove team – Seren Ahmet, Andrea Paragas and Samia Abdurahman – began well with wins in both the singles and doubles against host side Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school.
Ahmet and Paragas then triumphed 21-7 in their doubles clash with Highbury Fields and also won their singles games, with Abdurahman missing out on the chance to complete a hat-trick by just two points.
However, that was not enough to prevent Highbury Grove from retaining their crown and ensuring they would go on to represent Islington at the inter-borough tournament later in the year.
