The Tivoli Road club have won their last five games, but need another victory this weekend

Hornsey will entertain Enfield on Saturday in the Middlesex County League Division Two knowing only a win will give them a chance of promotion.

Garfield Struthers’ side made it five victories in a row last time out away to Osterley and remain in fourth on 117 points – seven off second-placed Stanmore.

A Hornsey win this weekend, coupled with Stanmore losing to Winchmore Hill and Harrow St Marys not triumphing away to Wycombe House, could see the Tivoli Road club go up.

But with table-toppers Enfield still not confirmed as champions, there is plenty riding on the final Division Two matches of 2018.

Struthers said: “Everyone is a bit tense at the moment about what will happen in the last game, but we are ready for it.

“We always have good battles with Enfield and they seem to generally beat us at their place and we normally win against them at home, so we are always beating each other.

“It will be an interesting match and we know quite a lot of their players. It should be a close one.”

Although Enfield are currently first, it is Hornsey who go into the crucial clash with confidence at an all-time high.

Since losing away to Harrow St Marys on July 21, the Tivoli Road outfit have won against Wycombe House, Stanmore, Southgate, Barnes and Osterley.

Last weekend, they triumphed by 44 runs at Osterley following a fine display by Jack Bruce.

After losing the toss, Struthers’ men were put into bat first and in trouble at 9-3, but their talented all-rounder top scored with 85 off 99 balls.

Jack Goldberg added 60 batting at number seven to help Hornsey get up to 197 before they were all out in the 45th over.

After scoring 85, Bruce then picked up 3-9 from five overs before Tom Waine claimed 3-24 to dismiss the hosts for 153.

Struthers added: “We went into the game needing to win to keep the pressure on the others and everyone put in a performance like they have been recently.

“We had cameos from a number of people and the youngsters are really starting to come to the party now and improve.

“Joe Emanuel has been putting in so many good performances and has really been stepping up and Jack Bruce is another who has impressed, especially on Saturday.

“At the same time the usual guys are performing well too and it is just a shame we have to rely on results elsewhere to try and get promoted, but that’s part and parcel of it now and for us we can only go out and win our game against Enfield this weekend.”
