Islington Boxing Club fielded 13 fighters in their second open home show of the season at Tufnell Park’s Boston Dome last Wednesday evening.
The first four bouts were skills contests, with Alfie Suksiri, 10, making his Islington debut against Finn Harris (Attleborough) at 27kg.
Rishon John, 11, faced Joe Whiting (Kent Gloves) at 25kg, before Marty McDonagh, 12, and Layne May (Attleborough) showed off their skills at 45kg.
Roxanne Fraser, 14, then met Lydia Nagle (Attleborough) at 49kg, before the first competitive bout of the night saw debutant Frankie Watson, 12, give Patrick McDonagh (White Hart Lane) a standing eight count in the third round of their 34kg contest on his way to a unanimous points win.
Watson was also named home boxer of the night following his impressive first outing.
Caiden Hughes, 14, won the first round against Sami Amin at 48kg, but saw the Redbridge southpaw rally to earn a unanimous points decision.
Islington’s Kyron Hughes, 14, had his second win for the club by beating Five Star’s Bruce Parker on unanimous points, upping his workrate after a scrappy opening round.
And junior captain Harry Betteridge, 14, dominated Sonny Shepard (Kent Gloves) on his competitive debut at 43kg, giving a superb display from start to finish to record a unanimous points victory.
Atila Reznan, 14, struggled to get going against Lucas Roehrig (All Stars ABC) in their 52kg bout and was stopped in the third round, but Ernie Swinhoe won his first contest in three years against Five Star’s Henry Monksfield on a unanimous decision, after giving his rival a standing eight count in the third round.
Eli Musah, 18, won the first round on his debut against 81kg rival Omoregbe Egharevba (Miguels ABC) but ran out of gas due to a touch of flu and was stopped in the second round.
In the first of two senior bouts, Laura Weis began brightly against Kate Goss (Westside ABC) at 52kg, but saw her rival fight back to take a unanimous points win and the best away boxer of the night award.
Chris Cunningham (76kg) won a unanimous decision against Eliab Sisseye (Earlsfield) as his strength and workrate proved key, despite illness, to end the night on a winning note for Islington.
