Islington BC’s Safi Abdullah was in devastating form as he overcame C Delaney (Bulmersh) on Saturday’s show at Lansbury ABC, Poplar.

With tidy straight punching and slipping, the highly-rated Abdullah worked his way into position to unload ferocious body shots and send his opponent to the canvas before the end of the first round.

Delaney rose on the count of five – but the next session was more of the same as another flurry of body shots floored him again, and he did well to survive the final round.

However, there was no question that the decision would go unanimously to Abdullah, whose Islington team-mate Jack Sinnott was also victorious on the same show.

In a highly tactical encounter with M Hennessy (Body Shots), Sinnott covered up well and landed the more effective punches, taking a close majority decision over his hard-working opponent.

The contest between Islington’s Paddy McCarthy and S Field (Bulmersh) was also difficult to call, with both boxers throwing plenty of punches throughout – but the decision went to Field on a majority.

However, there was another victory for the Hazellville Road club as southpaw David Katsarov took a unanimous decision against F Mirza (Omnibus).

Mirza made a lively start, but the Islington fighter stuck to his straight punching and gradually increased the pressure, forcing a standing count in the second round and dominating the last as well.

Lion ABC’s Amo Singh narrowly missed out in his attempt to reach the national schools’ final as he lost a close majority decision on Sunday.

Boxing in the Class B Under-34kg semi-final at Feltham Community College, Singh faced Henry Collins (Sporting Ring ABC), an opponent he had beaten 18 months earlier.

However, Collins used the extra height he has gained since their first meeting to his advantage and the Lion boxer found it difficult to get under his opponent’s long reach.

The majority decision could have gone either way, but it was Collins whose arm was raised at the end of a hard-fought contest.
