Islington BC’s Simon Collins recovered from a difficult start to clinch victory against home boxer Joe Dennison on a Banbury ABC show on Saturday.

Dennison overpowered the Islington man in the first round of their 75kg clash, using his reach to keep him at bay and land the jab – but Collins displayed his character to fight back.

Dominating the second and third rounds, Collins managed to silence the home crowd and earned a unanimous decision to secure his second win for the club.

That was Islington’s second success of the night, with Lamin Conteh also victorious in his 72kg contest after opponent Andy Reid (Priory Park ABC) started to tire from the second round onwards.

On the same evening, Islington’s Tommy Kerrigan also pulled off an impressive win over home opposition at the Alcester School of Boxing show in Warwickshire.

Kerrigan faced Alcester southpaw Luke Stanley – who had stopped his previous two opponents and boxed with enthusiasm in front of a partisan crowd.

But the Islington fighter landed the better straight shots and stepped up his pace and variation in the second and third rounds.

Kerrigan produced a series of good right uppercuts and classy combinations to take a unanimous decision.

However, there was disappointment for Islington’s Tait Toumany, who took on the RAF’s S Williams on a show at Northolt.

Toumany failed to throw or land sufficient punches on his opponent and lost the 82kg contest by unanimous verdict.
