Islington’s Ewan Jenkins and Bob Miah have seen their hopes of success in the National Association of Boys & Girls Club Championships come to an end.

But there was some consolation for Jenkins, who has been picked to join the England Talent programme and will attend training sessions, camps and workshops through the year.

Jenkins pipped Jimmy Croxston (Chadwell St Mary) in a Class D, under-64kg quarter-final bout on a 3-2 split decision.

The light-welterweight threw the cleaner punches to suggest a more comfortable win was be on the cards, but Miah missed out in the Class C, under-56kg category.

Buoyed by a knockout success in the London finals, Miah met Kieran Desmond (Chadwell St Mary), but gave away age, weight and experience to his opponent and, despite some decent spells, could not convince the judges.

Jenkins, 18, travelled to Bristol’s Hengrove Park Leisure Centre for his semi-final on Sunday to face familiar foe Brandon Stacey, from the nearby Devenport ABC.

Having suffered two defeats against Stacey in previous meetings, while a member at Empire ABC, Jenkins was hoping it would be a case of third time lucky in their latest clash.

But he was given two public warnings by the referee, which proved costly as Stacey claimed a unanimous points victory.

Coach Jerry Mitchell said: “It was disappointing for Ewan to be defeated the way he was. I felt that if they referee hadn’t deducted two points he would’ve won the contest and possibly become national champion.

“We’re all pleased for Ewan and will now work towards his first senior championships after the new year.”

Masood Abdualh represented London against the Army and had a rematch against Jordan Bracken, having won comfortably on a unanimous decision.

And he produced another good display for another win, ahead of the London Intermediate Championships next year.

Roxanne Fraser, 14, had her first skills bout against Charlotte Thomas (Canvey ABC) on the All Female Gala show at Tottenham Community Sports Centre.

Team-mate Frankie Watson, 11, had his second skills bout against Joe McDonagh (White Hart Lane BA), while William Nantu, 13, lost a unanimous decision to Shane Brown (Rumbles) on a Christmas show in Sheerness.
