Youngsters take part in EU-funded project

Girls from across Islington have been developing new sports skills in a range of programmes in schools and sports centres thanks to a scheme delivered by The Access to Sports Project.

The Encouraging Girls Participation in Sport project (EGPiS) is funded by the EU and aims to combat drop-off rates for girls and inspire female participation in sports.

It has seen over 100 girls and young women taking part in a range of sports, including basketball, fitness, netball and more.

One of the scheme organisers Ruby Margetts said: “It’s been great to see so many girls take part. Many of them had not taken part in sports before, we have seen confidence pick up and lots have gone-on to join clubs and other programmes.”
