Islington’s Rob Smyth has been named in the Great Britain squad for the upcoming ITU World Triathlon Championships in the Netherlands.
The former GB athletics team runner earned his spot after a series of dominant performances in several races this season.
Smyth’s biggest highlight was winning the Olympic distance race at the London Triathlon in July and he will represent GB in the age group grand final in Rotterdam, with the championships starting on Tuesday.
Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, following the success of the Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonny, and the 35-year-old Smyth comes from a strong running background and competed for the GB junior squads while at school and university.
He lives in London with his partner Sarah, a lawyer, and works alongside the Mayor’s Office as director for London Sport.
