George Yianni atoned for his penalty miss with the opening goal as Ryan Under-17s overcame a tough first hurdle in their defence of the London FA County Cup, beating Wingate & Finchley 2-0.

Yianni’s spot-kick was saved by the Wingate goalkeeper, but he netted soon afterwards and Sadiqur Rahman’s goal just before half-time set the Reds on their way to the second round.

Wingate, who started as slight favourites, edged the opening exchanges, but the home side were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead on 25 minutes as Rahman was brought down inside the box.

The keeper saved Yianni’s penalty – and also denied EJ Gyebi soon afterwards – but he could do nothing when an excellent through ball from skipper Berckan Belindir picked out Yianni, who fired home.

Ryan continued to press for a second goal and it came from a corner in first-half added time, which pinballed around the Wingate penalty area before Rahman smashed it into the net.

Wingate came out in determined fashion at the start of the second half, but a solid team effort from the Reds enabled them to see the game out and clinch a second round tie at home to Buckhurst Hill on Sunday.

Kamal Bannerman-Thompson netted a last-gasp winner as EC1 Under-12s came from behind to overcame The Heath 2-1 and stay top of the table in the Camden & Islington Youth League.

Heath deservedly took a first-half lead, but EC1 looked more determined after the break and Ellis Swift-Harris rifled a 25-yard equaliser into the top corner.

It looked as if the points would be shared, but Bannerman-Thompson scored with the last kick of the game, beating two defenders and the goalkeeper before slotting home.

Zak Miles registered a double as A Class Under-15s held off a second-half comeback from Recreativo Juniors to claim a 3-2 victory.

Dylan Bolister added a third goal to give A Class a three-goal lead at half-time and, although their opponents fought back, they were unable to snatch an equaliser.

Edouard Goussot struck his first goal for the club as Angel Islington Under-11s swept aside The Heath 4-0.

Harvey Williams scored twice, with Charlie Nolan also on the mark for Angel.

Goals from man of the match Casey Christou, Terry Haynes and Callum Webdale earned Angel Islington Under-10s a 3-1 victory over Futebol de Salao.

Felix Romer grabbed a hat-trick as Lyndhurst Lions Under-16s overcame Somers Town A 3-1 with a strong team performance.

Romer struck twice in the first five minutes and, although Somers Town pulled a goal back, Romer completed his treble with an individual effort. Tommy Smith was the Lions’ man of the match.

Bassam Menhal’s late equaliser earned injury-hit Isledon Wolves Under-15s an unlikely point in their 2-2 draw against second-placed Brimsdown.

Wolves fell behind in the first minute, but goalkeeper Brandon Walsh’s brilliant display kept them in the game before Ibs Rashid levelled.

Although Brimsdown quickly regained the lead, Menhal burst past the defence to make it 2-2 with a couple of minutes remaining.

Wolves’ Under-12s failed to maintain their recent improvement as they crashed 2-0 to Futebol de Salao.

Adnan Menhal pulled off a superb penalty save early on, but goals either side of half-time secured the points for FDS. Ben Barlow was Wolves’ man of the match.

Sid Taylor grabbed four goals as Angel Under-11s maintained their excellent form by thrashing Lea Valley United 8-1 in the Cheshunt Youth League. Harvey Williams and Charlie Nolan both scored twice.

Casey Christou netted a hat-trick for Angel Islington Under-10s in their 4-1 victory over Park View Rangers, with Peter Angelov also on target.

Ian Noseda was Angel’s man of the match.

A Class Under-15s picked up their sixth straight win as they hammered Enfield Youth 4-0, with Josh Gibson unlucky not to open his account for the season when his lob hit the woodwork.

Michael McKenna broke the deadlock for A Class before Zak Miles hit a brace and Reshawn Newland rounded off the scoring.
