Brothers Luan and Liam Veras teamed up to win five medals between them at the English Karate Federation National Championships in Sheffield.
Eight-year-old Liam began the two-day tournament by winning bronze in the Under-nines’ kata section and then joined Luan, 9, to take gold in the pairs’ kata.
The pair linked up with Veras Academy team-mate Emre Oner to secure a bronze medal in the team kata, while Luan added another bronze in the Under-nines’ individual fight category.
Luke Kavanagh narrowly missed out on a place, but Luan and Liam then helped the academy to claim another medal as they – along with six-year-old brother Luca – took silver in the junior team fight section.
There was further success for Veras Academy on the second day of the tournament as Sanan Aliyev won four fights in a row to reach the senior men’s Under-67kg elite kumite final, where he had to settle for the silver medal after a referee’s decision.
