At this stage of the season, you want to make sure you’re still involved in all three competitions, and that’s certainly the case at Middlesex.

We’ve just come off the back of a remarkable two weeks, with two very different wins in the County Championship – a competition where wins seem to be absolute gold dust this season.

We bowled Yorkshire out on the last day at Scarborough and then chased down a score in not many overs against Somerset, so it bodes very well knowing we’re capable of doing both.

To go to Taunton and beat a strong side with three of our main bowlers missing spoke volumes for the depth of our squad and it was awesome to see one of my best mates, Harry Podmore, showing what he can do.

He was the pick of the bowlers on both sides throughout the game and for him to do so well on his Championship debut provides even more competition within the squad.

I wouldn’t like to be a selector for our next Championship game – leaving anyone out won’t be easy. Only 11 blokes can play and the 11 that go out there have the rest of the squad right behind them.

Anyone who watched the video of the moment we won at Taunton can see what it meant to the rest of the lads. In all honesty, the tension was horrible – myself and James Fuller just couldn’t watch at all!

And our Twenty20 win at Taunton a couple of days later was a big result as well. It’s quite easy to fall into a slump in T20 and, having lost our two previous games, we desperately needed to win this one.

It’s a real scrap to qualify from the group – there are certainly a couple of places that are absolutely anyone’s and I’d like to think we can grab the opportunity.

So tonight is crunch time against Surrey – arguably our biggest game of the tournament so far – and hopefully we can put on a show in front of a full house at Lord’s.

We had an off night against them at The Oval, so we’ll be trying to put that right. We’re a couple of wins away from qualifying and, once you get to the knockout stage, anything can happen.

Unfortunately we’re going to be without Dawid Malan, who’s away with England Lions – but I think Somerset proved that, no matter who we’re missing, we’ve got a squad of players who can come in and perform.
