Mossbourne Academy’s Luca Minale maintained his 100 per cent record in the Islington Schools Running League with a comfortable victory at Clissold Park on Monday.
Minale recorded his fifth straight win in the years 7-8 boys’ section as he crossed the line in 10 minutes 24 seconds, well clear of second-placed Marwan Said of Highbury Grove (11:00).
However, it is Highbury Grove who lead the way in the schools’ table, with St Aloysius’ College – for whom Jordan Sackey (11:07) finished third on Monday – their only challengers.
Like Minale, Stoke Newington’s Felix Waters has dominated the years 7-8 girls’ competition, completing her fourth victory of the series with a run of 10:40.
Second-placed Evelyn Dumbleton (Clapton Girls’ Academy) continued her consistent form by taking the runners-up spot for a fourth successive race in a time of 11:26, just ahead of team-mate Amber Charlton (11:29).
With Mossbourne Academy’s Nile McKenzie – who had won all four of the previous years 9-10 boys’ races – a non-starter at Clissold Park, Greg Tobe of St Aloysius took advantage to register a victory in 10:48.
Team-mates Naham Medhanie (10:50) and Kafui Okpattah (11:44) finished second and third respectively as St Aloysius, who are miles ahead in the schools’ table, filled the top five places.
In the years 9-10 girls’ competition, Meg Naylor of Stoke Newington picked up her first win with a run of 10:59, reversing the positions from the previous race as she held off Clapton Girls’ Academy’s Francesca Beaumont.
Beaumont finished in 11:10, with team-mate Ezelina Owens (11:56) in third place for Clapton Girls, who are runaway leaders in the schools’ table.
