North London’s women maintained their 100 per cent record with a comfortable home T20 win over Totteridge Milhillians in the Middlesex Championship on Sunday.

Put into bat by the visitors, North London’s openers Cerys Walker and Fran Gonta put on a quickfire 47 in the first five overs, before the latter fell to a sharp catch.

Walker and Emma Williets (31) then kept up the run rate, with Walker reaching a half-century before retiring out.

Good contributions from Rebecca Tidmarsh and Irene Craik followed, as the Crouch End-based side, celebrating their new shirt sponsorship by local law firm Streathers, reached 159-4 from their allotted 20 overs.

Totteridge were teetering after seven overs of their reply, losing five wickets with only 11 runs on the board.

Williets claimed three of the wickets to fall and was well supported by Stasia Masterston.

But the visitors then put up a determined rearguard action against an accurate attack and limped to 35-5 at the close of their innings.

North London coach Martin Issitt said: “It was a good all round performance. There will be tougher tests to come, but the side is really developing and looking forward to games over each of the next seven Sundays.

“We have a growing squad who are working hard on their games. North London is definitely the place to be round here for good women’s cricket on Sunday afternoons!”

Meanwhile, the North London men were on the wrong end of a Middlesex League Division Two thrashing at Indian Gymkhana and remain second from bottom after the first six games.

Having won the toss, North London elected to bat and slumped to 60-5, as Adam Bhatti and Girishkumar Girijakumar shared the wickets to fall.

Daniel Moeser rescued the visitors’ innings from complete embarrassment with a steady 59 not out off 116 balls to lead the side to a more respectable total of 169 all out off 55 overs.

But Indian Gymkhana were ruthless in reply, reaching their target without loss thanks to Ranah Khan’s remarkable 105 not out off from just 71 deliveries, with 80 of his runs in boundaries.

Opening partner Sadiq Ahmadzai finished unbeaten on 60 and confirmed an emphatic victory for the home side – and more misery for North London.
