Sherif ‘The Sandman’ Musah returned to the ring after a six-month absence to seal victory for Islington BC on their dinner show against Bavarian opposition.

Light-heavyweight fighter Musah, who had not boxed since he won the national development championship Class B title in November, was victorious in his clash with Landau BC’s Tomas Dubsky.

Musah forced a standing eight count in the second round before taking a unanimous decision to earn the best home boxer of the night award and clinch a 5-3 success at the Royal National Hotel, Russell Square.

The evening’s boxing began with a junior contest between Callum Angel-Taylor and Rexhap Murslji (Landau), with the Islington fighter holding his own until the final round, where he began to tire and took a standing eight count, losing by unanimous decision.

The Hazellville Road club went 2-0 down after a surprising defeat for London youth finalist Tyrane Wynter, who lost out to Andreas Grubls despite landing the more eye-catching shots.

National junior super-heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois managed to get Islington on the scoreboard in his first appearance for the club, producing a series of long straight punches in the final round against Niki Balsam to take a unanimous decision.

Ramel Smith, in his second contest for Islington, also gained a unanimous decision after causing problems for opponent Wladimir Kosak throughout their three-round clash.

Islington’s Lamin Conteh took his record to three wins from three, boxing intelligently behind good combinations and a sound defence to defeat the far more experienced Simon Haufellner.

All Stars ABC fighter Alban Marku, making a guest appearance for Islington, was unlucky to find himself on the wrong end of a split decision in his encounter with Dominik Wagner.

Islington senior captain Jeff Ofori won a unanimous verdict against the talented Yunes Ramadan, landing several uppercuts and body punches to slow his opponent down.

The night was rounded off by an elite contest between Islington’s Troy Smart and Eli Saunders (Turners BA), with the latter edging it on a split decision.
