Finsbury Park will bid to continue their perfect start to the new Herts/Middlesex One season when they travel away to play UCS Old Boys on Saturday.

Park made it two wins from two last weekend with a 69-0 victory against Bank of England, but they will now face a big test as their opponents are also undefeated going into the weekend.

Captain Evan Gwilliam said: “Like most teams in this competition we do not know anything about them except that like us they are undefeated in their first two games.

“Regardless, Finsbury Park will be heading out there expecting nothing short of a bonus-point win and not accepting anything less.”

Park go into the match on the back of consecutive wins to start the season after following up their opening-day success at Thamesians with their convincing success against Bank of England in their home opener.

They were in the ascendancy throughout the game, physically outmuscling Bank of England, initially in the forwards then sending the ball wide where the Park backs were able to cut through the visiting defence to score at regular intervals.

This passage of play resulted in Park left winger Will Corcoran scoring four tries and being one of the stand-out performers in the match.

Gwilliam added: “The most pleasing thing about this game was Finsbury Park’s composure. Though we were running up a score we kept our structures, continued to win the forwards battle and allowed the backs plenty of time and space from the first to the 80th minute.”

The club’s second team will finally kick-off their new campaign as they begin life in the fourth tier Merit League this weekend when they host Letchworth thirds at Downhills Park Road.

They go into the match on the back of a heavy 57-10 defeat in their final pre-season fixture against Mill Hill seconds.

Park’s two tries came from Daniel Brennan and Luke Williams, but they proved to be no match for their opponents, who ran riot as they looked to prepare for their own league season.
