Islington player Alex Sappa stepped up his bid for a professional opportunity by leading Activities4U Under-25s to a comfortable victory in the Community Basketball League.

Sappa, who played in the showcase Midnight Madness tournament earlier this year but narrowly missed out on a place in the final, was named MVP for his side after their 50-34 win over Kensington & Chelsea Knights.

Having scored an impressive 12 points to secure that win at the Copper Box Arena, he is now aiming to take the next step at the 2016 tournament and secure a pro deal.

Fellow Islington player Orlan Jackman was signed up by Portuguese side CAB Madeira last month after impressing at Midnight Madness earlier in the year.

“Midnight Madness was a great experience for me,” said Sappa. “The frustration of knowing I was one place away from the national final has motivated me to join the CBL and get better for next year’s tournament.”

The league is run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach.
