A day before the fun day, Highgate will take on Finchley at Shepherds Cot in the Middlesex County League Premier Division

A fun day – free and open to all of the local community – in the sporting oasis of Shepherds Cot, Crouch End Playing Fields, is happening on Sunday (June 24) starting at 12pm until 5pm.

The Shepherds Cot Trust are running the event and during the day there will be games and sporting activities for spectators to get involved with.

A cricket match, several tennis clinics, some fire engine fun, a treasure hunt and a mega tug of war are just some of the activities taking place.

The Shepherds Cot Fun Day will aim to provide something for all ages and abilities with both hot food and afternoon teas on offer and a raffle with some incredible prizes set to take place during the fun day.

Shepherds Cot, the home of Highgate Cricket and Tennis Club, North London Cricket Club and Hanley Tennis Club, is looking for the local community to enjoy the unique idyllic, natural surroundings of the Cot.

It is next to Highgate Wood School, who will have their car park open for visitors on the day and for more information visit shepherdscottrust.org.

A day earlier, on Saturday, Highgate will host local rivals Finchley in the Middlesex County League Premier Division.

Muz Alli’s team picked up five points last weekend following a ‘winning draw’ at home Teddington.

After scoring 297-9 with the bat and reducing the visitors to 174-9, Highgate’s Johan de Silva is positive about they can do on Saturday.

Finchley will travel to Shepherds Cot in decent form after a two-wicket victory over Brondesbury last time out.

But they are fifth in the table with 32 points – only 15 ahead of Highgate, who are eighth and a place about the drop zone.

A 12-point victory for the hosts on Saturday would close the gap some more and the confidence of the new boys is high despite four defeats from their opening seven games this season.

“I think all in all it was a positive performance against Teddingon with contributions from all of the team,” said de Silva. “We look forward to hosting Finchley now this weekend.”
