Former St Pancras ABC star Danny Arnold has been tipped to become a professional champion by the club’s trainer CJ Hussein.

Super-bantamweight Arnold, who won a junior ABA London title and reached a national final during his time with St Pancras, makes his debut in the paid ranks on Saturday at York Hall, when he faces Luke Fash over four rounds.

And Hussein feels the 20-year-old from Dalston has the potential to make it at the top level – as long as he applies himself properly.

“He’s a great kid, extremely talented with fast, quick hands, and I’m sure he’ll do well,” the trainer told the Gazette.

A lot of kids turn pro but he’s a natural and at that weight there’s no-one to stop him.

“Some boys have to work hard at it but not Danny – he could just roll in and pick up a title. But now he’ll need to stay in the gym and make sure his head’s right.

“If he trains properly and stays in the gym then he’s got the making of someone who can go all the way to the top – and I could see him winning a British or European title one day.”

Arnold, who began his amateur career with Repton ABC and landed a national schools’ title at the age of 12, quit the sport after a controversial defeat in the final of the competition two years later.

But he returned with St Pancras in 2013 and picked up a London title before going on to lose in another final – the junior ABA championship against Birtley ABC’s Callum French.

Arnold, who is now being trained by Johnny Eames, said: “I have a good amateur background and I box a bit like Canelo Alvarez. I like to come forward, but I can box as well – I can do a bit of everything.

“Johnny is just putting a few things right in the gym and I’m looking to go as far as I can in the pros, starting with the Southern Area title, then the English.”

Fash has won two and lost seven of his 10 professional contests to date, with one draw.

The Hellraiser Promotions show also features the unbeaten Archway light-middleweight Tony Milch, who is boxing over eight rounds for the International Challenge belt, and Hackney welterweight Siar Ozgul, who takes on journeyman Matt Seawright.
