Veteran Islington fighter and instructor Syed Haider Mannan had double reason to cheer recently.

Mannan was inducted into the UK Martial Arts hall of fame, organised by the sport’s top magazine Martial Arts Illustrated at a special ceremony in Doncaster.

And he followed that with more recognition as he received an instructor award into the International Martial Arts hall of fame.

Mannan received his latest award at an event organised by London International hall of fame at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in west London and said: “I’d been nominated for the third time in a row as I’d been suffering for many years, after a car accident. I’d been through four surgeries and am on a waiting list for a total knee replacement, with my most recent elbow surgery in December.

“I still participated in the British Championships in February and earned two title belts. My martial arts adventure is very long and very different from others!”
