Middlesex lost to Somerset by four wickets with 12 balls remaining at a packed Lord’s in the T20 Vitality Blast on Thursday evening at Lord’s. Read on for Layth Yousif’s report

Daniel Vettori’s side posted 175-5 off their 20 overs before Somerset eased to the victory target of 176 with a full two overs to spare.

The home side’s innings was boosted after a quickfire 32 off just 12 balls by Dwayne Bravo towards the end of their allotted overs.

Earlier Max Holden hit 84 off only 55 balls before being bowled by Roelof van der Merwe.

In a strange innings which stalled on occasion, England ODI captain Eoin Morgan scored eight off ten balls, while Paul Stirling grabbed 19 off 14 deliveries.

The pick of the Somerset bowling was Max Waller with 2-23 off his four overs, supplemented by van der Merwe taking 2-26.

The 24-year-old Craig Overton was expensive and wicketless with figures of 0-54 off his four overs.

Somerset in reply made good progress towards their victory target of 176.

The South African Johann Myburgh moved to a rapid 46 off only 27 balls before Bravo dismantled his stumps with a snorter.

The very next ball Bravo trapped James Hildreth lbw for a golden duck, but was unable to grab a hat-trick with the first ball of his next over as Somerset wobbled on 3-59.

Prior to that the experienced wicketkeeper and explosive batsman, and former Surrey man, Steven Davies was denied a big score after the Australian Ashton Agar lured him into giving Stirling a catch, having scored a single off two balls.

Agar, who once scored 98 in the first Ashes Test of 2013 at Trent Bridge – partnered by the late and much-lamented Phil Hughes – may have been lauded for his batting that day, but it was his slow left arm orthodox bowling that he wanted to be recognised for.

Clearly the 24-year-old has been working hard on it ever since and offered a tidy spell against Somerset of 1-31 off three overs.

Tom Helm had the 27-year-old Kiwi Corey Anderson caught by James Fuller for 39 off 24 balls t oleave the match finely balanced on 6-158.

Two runs earlier the dangerous Peter Trego was the fifth wicket to fall, out for a well-paced 32 off 19 balls, lbw to Nathan Sowter,

However, captain Lewis Gregory saw the West Country visitors to a deserved win, with 17 off only balls in partnership with van der Merwe.
