IN-FORM Kentish Town warmed up for their upcoming FA Vase match against Thrapston Town in the worst possible way with a heavy defeat on Saturday.

Frank Zanre's weakened side fell to just their second league loss of the season, but remain within three points of early Premier Division leaders Kingsbury.

Missing six first team regulars against a strong home team, Town were always on the back foot, as the hosts started the game with fast flowing football.

The visiting defence had to concentrate in the early stages as the home side regularly switched flanks in their attack to force an opening.

They held out until the 14th minute when James Armstrong stabbed home from close range, and Town's appeals for an offside flag were to no avail.

Town regrouped and created a few openings of their own, with Larry Miller and Mark Doyle having a couple of half chances from distance.

With half time approaching Leverstock were gifted two soft goals to virtually finish the game off at the break.

First Town were caught in possession in their area and Armstrong stole in to fire his second past the helpless Paul Williamson.

A minute later, Doyle handled the ball in the box, conceding a penalty and receiving a straight red card. Ben Hammond slotted home the spot kick to put Leverstock 3-0 up.

Despite being a man short it was Town who looked the likelier scorers in the second half, and they should have had a penalty of their own when David Dawson was challenged in the box, but their appeals were again in vain.

Leverstock's introduction of three subs saw them add three more goals. Lachlan Cahill hit the fourth on 80 minutes, and Armstrong netted his third and fourth late on to complete the scoring.

Town manager Zanre admitted: "If we approached the first half as we did the second we might have got something out of this game.

"We need to learn from this result and move on, we have made a good start to the league and there is still a long way to go."

Town face United Counties League side Thrapston Town in the first round of the FA Carlsberg Vase at Barnet Copthall on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Kentish Town: Williamson, Adjei, Duffy, Quattromini, McMullen, Cole, Butler, Dawson, O Leary, Miller, Doyle, Rivera, Looney, White.
