Times ABC junior pair Ali Qayumi and Kian Williams both scored impressive victories on separate shows last weekend.

The hard-punching Qayumi looked sharp right from the start of Friday’s bout against S Elston (Ruislip ABC), who took a standing count in the first round – and another in the second.

Qayumi’s pace and power kept him ahead and the Ruislip boy, with swollen eyes and blood gushing from his nose, was retired in the middle of the final round.

Williams, the Times junior captain, produced a mature performance to beat Charlie Solomons (Aylesbury) on a split decision two days later and clinch his second successive victory.

Keeping his jab long, Williams showed good movement and technique and, although Solomons landed the cleaner shots in the second round, the Times boxer’s strong finish swayed the judges in his favour.
