Middlesex coach Daniel Vettori admitted his side have not made the progress they wanted to in the Vitality Blast T20 this season.

After collapsing to 39-6 against Glamorgan at Richmond on Sunday, James Fuller’s unbeaten 46 from 30 balls lifted the home side’s total to 131.

But it was never enough, despite two early wickets for Steve Finn (2-37) in reply, and the visitors eased to a seven-wicket win with seven overs to spare, as Colin Ingram (46 not out) and Kiran Carlson (40) led the way with the bat.

Vettori said: “We still want our batsmen to play with freedom because if you don’t and the wicket is different to what you expect, you could be behind the run-rate. So we allow that expression and hope that guys can come off. But the wicket, coupled with some really good bowling, meant we were put under pressure.

“I think ultimately you have to see progress in the results, that’s the thing that we’ll be judged on and everyone at Middlesex will be judged on – so the progress hasn’t been there.

“You can look at individual performances and be happy at times, but our ability to sum up the situation and then put all three facets together in one game is the thing that’s let us down this season.”

Middlesex are due to visit Gloucestershire for their next south group match on Thursday (6.30pm), then travel to Beckenham to take on Kent on Sunday (3pm).
