Stoke Newington's sole representative Felix Waters did her classmates proud with victory in Monday's Islington Schools Running League race at St Aloysius' College.
With a parents’ evening taking place at the same time, Waters was the only entrant from Stoke Newington School in the girls’ years 7-8 race, but swept home in first position with a time of seven minutes 18 seconds.
Evelyn Dumbleton headed a large contingent from Clapton Girls Academy – who filled eight of the top 10 places – in second (7:59), while the winner of the opening race in the series, EGA’s Caitlin Russell, had to settle for third (7:59) this time.
Mossbourne Academy’s Luca Minale secured his second victory in the boys’ years 7-8 race with a run of 7:02, while Marwan Said (7:22) finished second to ensure that the team honours went to Highbury Grove.
Central Foundation runner Sadik Mohamed (7:23) was just behind Said in third – a significant improvement on his 12th-place finish from the first race.
The boys’ years 9-10 race was won again by Nile McKenzie of Mossbourne Academy, who is ranked 12th nationally among Under-15 boys over 1,500m and coasted to victory in 6:39.
Central Foundation’s Alfie Lusardi (7:19) and James Mulholland (7:27), who were third and fourth respectively last time out, moved up a place each, with Mulholland’s performance helping to clinch another team success for St Aloysius.
Clapton Girls Academy swept the board in the girls’ years 9-10 race as they filled every one of the first 11 places, led home by Ruby Christian-Muldoon (7:44).
She was followed across the line by Francesca Beaumont (8:09), who improved by two places from the series opener, and Ezelina Owens (8:23) in third.
The next two races in the series both take place around Emirates Stadium and will be held on Monday November 17 and Monday December 15.
