Beautiful Allotment bring sustainable cocktails and BBQ food to a leafy new open-air hangout

If you find yourself yearning for a countryside escape this summer, the great news is that you won’t have far to travel.

Located in the stunning Victorian grounds of Hoxton’s Geffrye Museum, Beautiful Allotment is a new hub for eating, drinking and socialising in an impressive leafy green setting.

This is a summer residency put together by Bourne & Hollingsworth – the restaurant and cocktail bar based in Clerkenwell – who serve guests sustainable cocktails garnished with ingredients grown on site. Those looking for a bite to eat can choose between a selection of vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat options cooked on open-fire barbecues.

Megan Burroughs, Head of Marketing at Bourne & Hollingsworth, said: “We see more and more allotments popping up around the UK and the origins of the aesthetic - with overgrown plants and herbs - came from this.

“The aim for Beautiful Allotment was to create a summer pop-up with a twist, where Londoners could come and while away a day in the garden, book a day bed, treehouse or potting shed, and then have drinks and food in the evening.

“We want to transport you to a pocket of countryside without leaving the city, with an idyllic and tranquil set-up during the day, which turns into a bit of a party in the evening.”

Beautiful Allotment features roaming ‘garden-tenders’, who navigate their way around the various flower beds and vegetable patches to serve drinks via wheel-barrow bars.

The pop-up space also includes homemade and handpicked pieces of furniture to help create an organic, al-fresco space which is the polar opposite to bustling London.

Beautiful Allotment is set to run until Sunday August 26 and menus will change daily throughout the course of the summer. A bulk of the food will comprise of locally sourced meat and fish dishes, with platters of marinated aubergine, cauliflower, corn-on-the-cob and salads to look forward to for veggies.

Highlights among a vibrant and refreshing cocktail list include The Ophelia (St Germain, jasmine jasmine acacia honey shrub and Charitea Mate) and the Le Fizz du Jardin (Grey Goose vodka, St German Elderflower Liqueur, fresh line, Martini Bitter, lemon verbena cordial and soda) – which look absolutely ideal for after-work drinks or catch-ups at the weekend.

Beautiful Allotment is now open at Geffrye Museum, E2 8EA, until Sunday August 26. Opening times are Wednesday to Friday (4pm-11pm), Saturday (12pm-11pm) and Sunday (12pm-8pm). See beautifulallotment.com for more details.
