Too posh to cycle? Think again, because the annual Tweed Run is back for an eighth year on May 14.

Once again, cyclists will ditch the lycra in favour of flat caps, silk cravats and – of course – their finest Tweed jacket as they leisurely pedal 12 miles around central London.

Starting in Clerkenwell, sharply dressed bikers will ride a variety of two-wheeled contraptions, from penny farthings and vintage bikes to modern-day cycles.

Expect to see plenty of Merino wool jerseys, bow ties and other retro attire as entrants bike in view of famous landmarks and hidden gems, with stop-offs for tea and a bite to eat.

The scenic route will finish back in Clerkenwell’s Spa Fields for the garden party and closing ceremony, where a free gin cocktail, live music and a barbecue will await thirsty cyclists.

Tickets to ride for £25, including a £5 donation to the London Cycling Campaign, are now sold out but those who have already signed up who want to ensure they set off on a full stomach can indulge in the Tweed Run brunch at Bourne&Hollingsworth Buildings for an extra £25.

Riders and guests can also reserve a gourmet hamper full of classic treats for the picnic break halfway through the ride.

If you want to dress up without getting sweaty, you can still buy tickets to the after party for £10, which lets you watch the last leg of the ride and cheer the cyclists over the finish line.

The Tweed Run is organised by Bourne&Hollingsworth.
