Mini Glastonbury comes to Islington

Music legend Tony Christie is among 70 acts on the Oxjam Islington line up which will hit seven venues on Saturday.

There will be 70 acts taking to the stage across Islington on Saturday from 2pm including plenty of up and coming local talent as well as music legend Tony Christie who will be headling the Oxjam event .

Barry Causton, who has been busy organising the Oxjam Islington Takeover while on a sabbatical from his job in IT at Islington Council, said: “I live in the area and work for the council, so I wanted to do something for the community.

“It will promote local bands and rally the community around. We are going to have something on the line up for everyone.”

The 35-year-old from Finsbury Park added: “It’s going to be like a mini Glastonbury coming to Islington – we even have our own ‘legend slot’ with Tony Christie.”

A wide variety of music including jazz, reggae, rock, punk, ska and metal, as well as cabaret, will be showcased across The Kings Head Theatre Pub, The Library and The Hope and Anchor in Upper Street, the Old Queens Head and the Wenlock and Essex in Essex Road, and The Slug and Lettuce in Islington Green.

The Islington Assembly Hall, Town Hall, Upper Street, which will be the family-friendly venue, will play host to dance and music workshops as well as Tony Christie’s headline performance.

Early bird tickets cost just �6 or �9 on the day and the price includes entry to all seven venues until late for those over the age of 18 (ID may be required.) Those under 18 can have access to the Assembly Hall. All proceeds go to charity.
