Chroma Form, a group exhibition of artists exploring the intersection of colour and abstract forms, is opening at the Well Hung Gallery in Hoxton on August 4.
Artists exhibiting include Carl Cashman, Fiona Grady, J. M. YES, and East London based Mark McClure and Tez.
McClure’s work, which is constructed of reclaimed wood, will be familiar to some. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park commissioned an arts and culture project, which included the Living Walls project of which McClure was a part.
“It was a year-long project and part of the remit was to have a community aspect so we got kids in to help,” he says.
“Scale wise it was completely new. It’s quite a confidence boost for me from working quite small to working on something of that size.”
Tez, aka Nick Terry, is newer to the scene and has been influenced by the work of the other artists he is exhibiting with.
“The Olympic Park project was something I looked at and I was like oh my God, that’s incredible,” says Terry.
“The other guys are people I’ve looked up to for a long time and now I’ve got a show with them.”
Nick Terry works full-time at Jealous in their studio and gallery making digital and hand made print editions of other artists’ work.
He uses evenings and weekends to work on his own art.
“What I love to do is take a week’s holiday and paint a mural. Most of my stuff is paper based. “
I do six or seven murals a year on big walls and that’s where I’m happiest.”
Chroma Form opens at Well Hung Gallery on August 4.
Until September 4. Admission free.
