Every day would begin like this if it was down to me.

A leisurely start, before breaking my fast high in the sky, watching London get to work on a beautiful sunny day.

Paramount, on the 32nd floor of the Centrepoint building, offers the breakfast of champions. Sure, the entrance is blighted by the seemingly endless roadworks outside Tottenham Court Road tube, but once you get in it’s luxury all the way.

The smooth elevator whips you to the heavens quick as a flash, and once the doors open you’re greeted by a truly magnificent 360 degree vista of our fair capital.

You’d have thought all this opulence must come at a wallet-busting price, but actually it’s all very affordable.

You a can grab a pastry for a couple of quid and even the whopping full English is only £12. After admiring the view and snapping a few selfies, we made our way through the obligatory round of coffee and juice whilst deciding what to eat.

There’s healthy (oats and fruit salad), straight forward (pancakes, eggs, waffles) and the slightly odd (roasted figs).

The hearty ham and potato hash was topped with a perfectly cooked duck egg – yolk a deep orange and just the right liquidity, likewise oeuf benedict; alive with smoky ham and tangy hollaindaise. Meanwhile the mushrooms were laden with herbs and seasoning, piled high on crunchy toast.

In short, it was all really good, the service was impeccable and the whole experience made me feel a lot richer than I am.

If there is a better start to a week day than a tasty breakfast 32 floors above London, I’ve yet to find it...
