TERRY REID

Ronnie Scott's, Frith Street, W1

THE more I listen and learn about Terry Reid the more overwhelmed I am - I can't do him justice in words. He's played and sung with just about everyone, and commands ultimate respect among the musician fraternity.

Using his voice like an instrument, he stretches and expresses every last drop of feeling and meaning.

From Sinatra and Beach Boys to his coal mining colliery background, and a fantastic recently-written Night Of The Raging Storm about New Orleans' Hurricane Katrina, he sings with passion, soul and improvisation.

He rolled out The River with a funky soulful swampy feel, rocked it on Rich Kid Blues, and pulled on heartstrings with Leavin' And Gone.

The delightful thing about Reid is that he's so unique yet he seems to have left his ego at home.

This is the man who declined to front Led Zep, who's opened for the Stones, who did the first Glastonbury. A real rock'n'roll Forrest Gump.
