The clientele seemed to be a good mix of people and we were told that Radio One DJ Chris Moyles used to order his food from here on a regular basis.

We went for onion bhajis, shami kebabs and a chicken chat. I am a big fan of shami kebabs and Fleet's offering was right up there with the best. Fresh and juicy - and thankfully free of the food colourings often used in such dishes.

The chicken chat was a mini-curry with very aromatic flavours on a small bed of salad.

For the main course I had a special king prawn korta. The sauce blended a multitude of flavours and was accompanied by prawns so big they looked they'd been for a workout at the ocean view gym!

Stuffed paratha bread proved to be a nice alternative to the more traditional naan, and a tasty motor paneer, which came with peas and generous chunks of homemade cheese in it, meant plates were well and truly cleaned by the end of the meal!

We also had perfectly cooked garlic rice, on the recommendation of the waiter, who was friendly yet professional.

My partner had the goanis mixed delight, which was a combination of chicken, prawn, king prawn and tender lamb - a way of cheating if you cannot decide what you want from the menu, I suppose!

The dish was very flavoursome and the meats were cooked to perfection.

By this time we were both pretty full but I decided to soldier on and ordered a banana boat covered in cream and strawberry sauce. It was so nice that I quickly forgot how full I was and scraped down every bit as my partner looked on in amazement.

Fleet Tandoori serves up super food and great service is great - the chef will even happily change a dish to suit your own tastes.

Hampstead obviously has its fair share of eateries but Fleet Tandoori stands very high in my ranking. - ISOBEL HUNTER
